How to Compress Your Videos Before Uploading
To keep our community running blazing-fast and ensure your videos load instantly for everyone, please take a quick moment to optimize your videos before uploading them!
Raw videos straight from your phone or camera are often massive, which can cause slow uploads and playback buffering. Compressing your video cuts the file size down by up to 80% without losing any noticeable quality.
Here are the easiest ways to do it in under a minute:
📱 For Android Mobile Users
If you are uploading straight from your phone, we recommend using the free Compressor app from the Google Play Store.
- Open the Compressor app and select the video you want to upload.
- Choose the compression settings (Aim for 720p or 1080p resolution, and keep the format as MP4).
- Tap Compress. Once it finishes saving, your video is completely ready to post!
🍏 For iOS (iPhone & iPad) Users
If you are uploading from an Apple device, we recommend using the free Video Compress app from the App Store.
- Open the Video Compress app and tap the target video from your library.
- Adjust the target size slider (Aiming for around 720p (HD) or 1080p gives the perfect balance of size and quality).
- Tap the Export icon on the top right to save the compressed file straight to your Camera Roll. Now it’s ready to upload!
💻 For Laptop & Desktop Users
If you are uploading from a computer, we recommend using the free, open-source software HandBrake (available for Windows and Mac).
- Open HandBrake and drop your video file into the window.
- On the Summary tab, make sure the format is set to MP4 and check the Web Optimized box.
- Click Start Encode at the top. Once it finishes saving, your video is completely ready to post!
💡 Why do this? By optimizing your videos before uploading, you help us keep the feed incredibly snappy, eliminate loading delays, and ensure a beautiful playback experience for everyone in the community!
