Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 9, 2026 | Last Updated: July 2026
TL;DR (The Simple Version)
- Privacy First: We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
- Control: You own your data and can download a full archive, update your settings, or request account deletion at any time.
- Security: All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted via SSL and stored on secure servers.
Welcome to SociablePlace (“we,” “us,” or “our”). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your information when you visit and use our social media platform.
1. Information We Collect
A. Information You Provide Directly
We collect information that you explicitly provide when you interact with our community:
- Account Details: Name, username, email address, date of birth, and password when you register.
- Profile Information: Avatars, profile pictures, “About Me” descriptions, and any details you choose to share in your profile fields.
- User Content: Posts, comments, likes, photos, videos, and your activity within groups.
- Communications: Messages, private chats, and any correspondence you send directly to us or other users.
B. Automatically Collected Information
To ensure security, performance, and basic site functionality, we automatically collect certain technical data when you use the platform:
- Device & Log Data: Your IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers.
- Usage Activity: Information about your interactions on the platform, including clicks, shares, likes, and pages visited.
C. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, understand user behavior, and support platform advertising. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, but essential parts of the platform (such as the login system and activity feed) may not function properly without them.
2. Data Independence & Third-Party Tracking
We prioritize site independence to protect our users. We host our scripts, styles, and essential assets directly on our own allocated server space rather than relying heavily on external Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). This helps ensure that your browsing activity on SociablePlace is not automatically shared with or tracked by external script providers.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the data we collect to maintain a safe and functional platform:
- Operation: To provide, maintain, and optimize the SociablePlace network (e.g., populating your activity feed, displaying profile details).
- Notifications: To notify you about platform activity, such as mentions, friend requests, group updates, or direct messages.
- Safety & Security: To monitor for, detect, and prevent fraudulent activity, site abuse, spam, or cybersecurity threats — including screening to prevent registration by users under 18.
- Advertising: To deliver and display relevant advertisements within the platform.
4. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal data. However, we may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- With Other Users: Content, profiles, and activity you post publicly or within groups are shared with the community based on your chosen privacy settings.
- Service Providers: We share data with trusted third-party vendors who perform essential functions for us (such as our web hosting provider, analytics tools, and ad networks), under contracts that limit their use of your data to those functions.
- Legal Obligations: We may disclose your information to legal authorities if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety and rights of our users and the public. This includes mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as required by federal law.
5. Data Storage and Security
All data transmitted between your browser and our website is encrypted using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology. Our data is stored on secure servers managed by our hosting provider. While we implement industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. External Links & Advertisers
SociablePlace may display advertisements or contain links to external third-party websites. Advertisers or external sites may use their own cookies to collect information. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, tracking mechanisms, or content of external platforms.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is necessary to:
- Comply with legal, tax, or accounting obligations (retained for 7 years);
- Resolve disputes or enforce our agreements;
- Support ongoing safety, fraud-prevention, or law enforcement requests.
8. Your Rights & Data Control
You maintain control over your personal data. Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable law, including:
- California (CCPA/CPRA): The right to know, access, delete, and correct your personal information, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information, including for targeted advertising. California residents may submit these requests by contacting us using the information in Section 12.
- Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other U.S. state privacy laws: Depending on your state of residence, you may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to opt out of targeted advertising or profiling.
- European Union / United Kingdom (GDPR/UK GDPR): SociablePlace is based in the United States and is not specifically directed at or marketed to residents of the EU or UK. If you access SociablePlace from the EU or UK, we make reasonable efforts to honor rights under GDPR/UK GDPR, including access, correction, deletion, and objection to processing — please contact us using the information in Section 12 to make such a request.
For all users, regardless of location, you may:
- Access & Review (Data Portability): Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. Logged-in users can instantly generate and download a comprehensive, legally compliant structured data file (`export.json`) alongside a printable overview (`index.html`) at any time by visiting their account dropdown menu or directly accessing the Data Export Dashboard.
- Correction: Request updates or corrections to any inaccurate personal information.
- Deletion: Request the permanent deletion of your account and all associated personal content at any time.
- Opt-Out: Adjust your internal privacy settings to control who sees your activity, opt out of certain communications, or limit targeted advertising.
To exercise these rights, you can update your account settings directly or reach out to us using the contact information in Section 12.
9. Children’s Privacy & Minimum Age
SociablePlace is an adult platform intended solely for users 18 and older. SociablePlace is not directed at, marketed to, or intended for use by children or teenagers of any age, including minors under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
This is a deliberate policy choice, and a higher bar than the 13-year-old threshold set by the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We apply it platform-wide, to all users, rather than distinguishing between different age brackets under 18. Because no one under 18 is permitted on the platform, this policy necessarily exceeds — and fully satisfies — COPPA’s protections for children under 13.
To help enforce this policy, we require all users to provide a true date of birth at signup, which is checked against our minimum age requirement before an account can be created. If we discover, or are notified, that a user under 18 has created an account by providing false information, we will immediately suspend the account and delete the associated personal data.
SociablePlace does not permit sexually explicit or adult content of any kind, from any user. This is a strict, platform-wide content prohibition described further in our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, and applies regardless of user age.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a minor has created an account or provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately using the information in Section 12 so we can investigate and take appropriate action, including account deletion.
10. International Transfers
SociablePlace is operated out of the United States. If you access our platform from outside the U.S., including from the EU or UK, your data will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where privacy regulations may differ from your home country. By using SociablePlace, you acknowledge and consent to this transfer.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect shifts in platform features or changing legal requirements. We will notify users of material changes via the platform activity feed or email prior to the change taking effect. Continued use of SociablePlace after updates are posted indicates your acceptance of the revised policy.
12. Contact Us
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your privacy or this policy, you can contact us via our contact form, internal messaging system, or by email at:
